Welcome to Sharks and Crocodiles with Mrs Needham & Mrs Richardson.
Crocodiles have had an incredibly busy half term. It all began with a visit to Rosehill Victoria Park, which was a real treat, particularly as the weather favoured us on that day! The visit inspired The Crocodiles to write some informational reports about features and activities at the park. They also wrote letters to Councillor Pitchley, The Mayor of Rotherham and put forward their views on how they thought the park could be made even better.
As part of the local authority ‘Picture This’ project, the whole school has studied a detailed picture by Pieter Bruegel The Elder, called Children’s Games. The picture has inspired a variety of work across the curriculum. Watch out for our exhibition next half term when we hope you will take the opportunity to come and view your child’s work. Crocodiles have particularly enjoyed writing stories about lost toys. They also used the popular film, Toy Story as a basis for creating their own tales about toys that come to life. How cool is that!
We’re sure that our forthcoming trip to ‘The Deep’ will be just as inspirational and will fire up our imaginations so that we can produce some more amazing writing.
Sharks have worked hard to consolidate their mathematical skills, working on arithmetic, fractions, time, rotation, money and symmetry, as well as data handling, co ordinates and problem solving.
Next half term is set to be equally busy. The children are already looking forward to our annual visit to the English Institute of Sport. Exciting changes are afoot for our Crocodiles and Sharks as they prepare for their graduation and transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. They have worked incredibly hard to achieve their goals this year and deserve all the success in the world. We’re very proud of them all.
