Welcome to Class 3!
Mr Butler, Mrs Beckham and Miss Laycock would like to welcome you to Year 1. We cannot wait to see you back in school after such a long period away and hear about everything you have been doing and to be reunited with your friends. We appreciate that you may be feeling slightly anxious with having so much time away from school, but we will soon get back into the swing of things and help you all get right back on track.
There are numerous fun things planned for your return to school for example, a virtual tour of a zoo and other exciting animal themed activities.
In literacy we will be working hard to develop our confidence and independence when using and applying our phonic knowledge. Using these skills to write sentences about animals and punctuating them correctly. We will write a recount of our virtual day at the zoo and rewrite the story ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ by Judith Kerr.
In Maths we will be practising our number recognition to 20 and beyond when ready. Saying the 2’s, 5’s and 10’s number patterns and counting in practical contexts. We will develop our addition and subtraction skills, adding and subtracting one and then two-digit numbers.
In Topic we will be learning facts about lots of different types of animals. We will find out about their similarities and differences and sort them according to different criteria. We will learn about our body and explore our senses and what we use them for.
We hope you have a wonderful summer holiday and cannot wait to welcome you back!
Mr Butler, Mrs Beckham and Miss Laycock.
