Welcome to Class 5
In this class Miss Horsfield is the class teacher and Mrs Tate is the teaching assistant.
This half term will be our ‘Picture this’ topic. We will be using the ‘Whistlejacket,’ picture by George Stubbs as a creative stimulus which will run throughout all our work.
We will be working on a large collaborative piece of artwork as well as smaller pieces which link to the topic. This year our big piece is a fairground carousel. The children will need to work together to create and assemble this project. Once this has been completed you will have the opportunity to view our work. We will keep you posted with the details.
In mathematics this half term we will be:
-Doubling, halving and sharing.
-Exploring the composition of numbers to 10.
-Investigating number bonds to 10 and being able to automatically recall some of these.
-Manipulating shapes to develop special reasoning.
-Using language related to measures and solving simple problems.
-exploring and representing patterns
In literacy we will continue to practise using
capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our writing. We are working hard to read our sentences back to ensure that they make sense. We will be writing our own fact files about horses, learning about fictional horses, including some that the children may be familiar with and linking our learning to stories e.g. Rosie’s magic horse and How to catch a unicorn.
In PE we will be continuing to develop our ball skills and playing simple games. Please support and encourage your child at home to get dressed and undressed independently, where possible including buttons. Please make sure all PE kits including footwear are in school for the first Monday after half term.
