Intent

Computing is a part of every aspect of life. It is therefore important that we recognise and value the importance of teaching our children new skills which they can build upon in the future. We follow the programmes of study for Computing in National Curriculum. Children will be taught to use computational thinking and creativity and how to use and create programs. Children are also taught about safe internet use throughout the year.

Implementation

At Ryecroft our Computing curriculum has been developed to ensure coverage and progression across all year groups. It is linked through the half terms theme to allow cross curricular links to learning where possible. A discrete session is also taught each week where children are taught about algorithms and use them within simple programs. By the end of Year Two, it is expected that most children will have developed their knowledge and understanding and possess all of the skills required to be competent users of digital technology. In school each class have access to 3 computers and a digital camera. There is also a set of Ipads that can be signed out and used within class. These are used to take photos, create pictures, text, use apps and store information. We also have an Interactive Touchscreen in every classroom, which further develops the children's computer expertise and supports teaching and learning.

Impact

During their time at Ryecroft children will have developed knowledge, understanding and skills to help them with the challenges that the digital environment presents. Children’s knowledge and skills will develop progressively as they move through the school, not only to enable them to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum but to prepare them to become competent users of digital technology in the next phase of their education.
